Gaumukh is where the holy river Ganga originates. It’s one of the most sorts after treks & trekking here will take you to the snout of this highly worshipped river Ganga. This trek is not only about the Hindu mythology that’s associated with Gaumukh but also about the beautiful meadows, towering mountain peaks, & enchanting forests.

This trail takes you through the Gangatori National Park in the Greater Himalayan Region where you get to see the entire Mt Shivling along with the great massif, the Bhagarati Sisters!

Imagine setting foot on the same ground, Tapovan, where thousands of years ago, great Rishi munis set their foot. It humbles me to know that this place Was, Is & Will be!

Tapovan is naturally diverse. It’s carpeted by the lush green grasslands that are considered to be the best high-altitude grasslands, in India. It is perched at an elevation of 4463 metres, which is about 14,640 feet above sea level, and is situated near the famous Gangotri shrine.

The snout of the river Ganga looks like a cow’s mouth (Gua meaning Cow, Mukh meaning mouth), thus, the name Gaumukh. This is a very special place for the Hindus but Gaumukh is not just about its mythology. It’s also about the mesmerising views & breathtaking beauty. It is one of the best trekking destinations due to its enchanting nature.

A few kilometers ahead is the meadow, Tapovan. In Sanskrit, the word Tapovan is an amalgamation of two words, tapas (meaning meditation and penance) and vana(meaning forest). It is known as the land where great sages came to penance. It has a lot of good energy & vibe which you will be able to feel when you are there.
